Augusta and Christopher, residents of Brooklyn, New York, embarked on an unforgettable journey to celebrate their destination wedding in Abruzzo, Italy. Set amidst the picturesque backdrop of Santo Stefano di Sessanio and the iconic castle of Rocca Calascio, their love story unfolded amidst the ancient stones of one of Italy’s hidden gems.

Rocca Calascio, standing proudly as the highest castle of the Apennines, is a testament to centuries of history and resilience. Built of stone and masonry in the tenth century for military purposes, this fortress is now nestled within the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park, overlooking the breathtaking high plain of Campo Imperatore. Adjacent to the fortress lies the charming octagonal church of Santa Maria della Pietà, a serene sanctuary dating back to the seventeenth century.

Renowned for its cinematic allure, Rocca Calascio has served as the backdrop for iconic films such as “Ladyhawke,” “The Name of the Rose,” and “The American.” For Augusta and Christopher, reaching this historic site was no easy feat. Despite the challenging path and the weight of their wedding attire, their determination was met with a reward beyond measure—the unparalleled beauty of the landscape and the ethereal atmosphere that enveloped them at an altitude of 1,460 meters above sea level.

As their entrusted photographer, I had the privilege of capturing the intimate moments shared between Augusta and Christopher amidst the timeless allure of Rocca Calascio. While their wedding album remains a private treasure, I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase glimpses of their love story against the backdrop of this majestic setting.

For couples seeking a destination wedding in Abruzzo, Rocca Calascio offers an enchanting blend of history, romance, and natural splendor. Let us help you bring your dream wedding to life amidst the ancient stones and breathtaking vistas of this iconic Italian landmark.
